This simple sentence shows how the parts of speech are represented by colors. The red bar over “will bark” is a link that shows that “will bark” is a verb phrase.

Now, we insert an adverb inside of a verb phrase. We use a notched link to show that the verb phrase “will bark” is still intact.

Finally, see how a prepositional phrase acts like an adverb? Also students will learn that helping verbs at the start of a sentence transform it into an interrogative sentence.
